Endodontics
Endodontics also known as Root Canal Therapy is the treatment of necrotic pulp or nerve tissue.

Deep cavities allow germs to infect the pulp or nerve tissue, which results in the nerve dying. Trauma to a tooth can also cause a nerve to die and then become infected. An infected tooth will never heal on its own and it will only drag down the body’s immune system allowing the infection to travel throughout the body. In severe cases, people have died from infected teeth if not treated.

Root canal therapy is usually done in a two- appointment visit but often only a one visit appointment is necessary, depending on the case. The convenience of this one visit appointment can be credited also with the recent advancement of rotary files and other techniques. At the first visit a small opening is made in the tooth to gain access to the pulp chamber. Dental files are used to carefully clean out the infected pulp. The canal is cleaned with a solution and a temporary filling is placed in the small opening of the tooth. At the second visit the canal is cleansed again and a natural, rubber material, called gutta percha is placed in the canal. A temporary filling will be placed for a few weeks while the healing process is completed and then a permanent restoration will be placed.
